Prayer for the Right Person

A friend of mine gave me a copy of her wedding misalette which also contained several prayers, including one which is a prayer for the "right person." Twenty days before my 31st birthday, I will not deny that the nagging question why I, unlike most of my friends, haven't had an honest to goodness, official, rewarding and loving romantic relationship reverberates in my head. I had a copy of that misalette but lent it to another friend who, at that time, had broken up with her fiance. Now she swears by the words of wisdom and the prayers included in the misalette as she is now happily in a relationship unlike the ones she's had before, those which always made her feel that there is something more she could or ought to have. Another friend also shared with me another prayer for the choice of spouse, meant to be prayed every day. I really appreciate my friend's thoughtfulness and concern; I must have sounded desperate and exasperated, tired of waiting and questioning why things are not happening the way I want them to. Perhaps their prayers for me were answered when, after writing this personal prayer, I became at peace with myself. Here is my prayer:

Lord, I offer you this day with gratitude and praise. You know my heart's desires and my longing to be with someone who would love me, and in turn, I could love with my whole being. Despite my own choice, I dedicate my heart to you Lord and I affirm that to be pleasing to you is my life goal. I surrender to you my heart and I offer it to you in full submission, obedience and trust that you will give me that person who will help me fulfill my purpose in life which is to be Christ-like. Lead me towards that person Lord, and bestow on me the grace of the Holy Spirit so that as I walk towards that path that leads me to the right person, I will be molded into someone who is also capable of leading him towards a life with you at its center. I pray this with humility and acceptance that your will is sovereign, and with full, child-like trust that you will take care of me so that ultimately I will be led towards you and your Kingdom. Amen.
